Seeing is Believing

feature story by Kerry Rutherford

Craig Junjulas, metaphysical teacher and clairvoyant, is the current president of The Sedona Metaphysical Spiritual Association, a Chamber of Commerce affinity group. He is currently working on a project with a medical doctor to create a class and written materials on the process one goes through on the path toward illumination. On Craig Junjulas' website it says. "Craig helps his students to help themselves by stimulating their own higher natures, thus leading naturally to Higher Self Discovery. This strong but gentle man is a teacher's teacher who recognizes that the greater purpose of expanding the mind is to open the heart and apply this increased awareness to helping others in need." How Craig arrived at this awareness and involved in his current work is an interesting story that goes back to his early childhood.

When Craig was just a toddler he remembers seeing colors and people that the grownups did not seem to be aware of. He would sit on the floor and giggle at things he saw, staring at birds and laughing out loud. Later, when he could articulate what he was seeing, Craig quickly learned that asking questions about what he saw would get him into trouble. Craig's "imagination" became a liability. When Craig would get sick with a fever he would enter what he now knows as a non-ordinary state, hearing whispering and seeing shapes. Eventually his main goal was to try to stay out of trouble. But being an outspoken person by nature, it was particularly hard for the young Craig. For example, in school the teacher was giving a lesson about Abraham Lincoln and Craig seemed to be daydreaming, staring at the blackboard and ceiling. The teacher walked over and slammed a book on his desk which jolted him back to 'this world.' But during a test, Craig felt compelled to answer the questions with what Abe Lincoln had told him (as he appeared behind the teacher through the blackboard) which contradicted the answer the teacher wanted. Craig soon learned that when he spoke the truth as he saw it, he was labeled a rebel. Craig lived in his own fantasy world and would merge with the characters on TV and in the movies, disassociating as an escape from a world that did not understand or accept him.

Eventually Craig was married, in college, working in scientific research and development for a Fortune 500 company, and was also manifesting the physical symptoms of burning legs and extreme nervousness. He went to a therapist and hypnotherapist and began to discover how his past had affected his present. He was handed a book on meditation and when practicing, connected with a bright being in whose presence he felt humbled. This being told him, "Go back and heal your brothers and sisters." Craig started taking classes on personal growth and psychic development, and attended psychic fairs and lectures. At one workshop he was approached by the instructor and asked if he would like to teach the class. Less than two years later Criag left his job at Union Carbide and became director of the non-profit Foundation for Psychic Development in New York.

When asked what speed-bumps or lessons he has had to endure on this path, Craig is quick to point out that a sense humor has been essential to maintain throughout his life. But Craig shows his openness again by honestly revealing that his desire to please and rescue others in his personal life has created co-dependent relationships. He is aware of his reluctance to accept power and says he still errs on the side of caution. On the other hand, Craig mentions his own strong ego and the challenge of dealing with the results of other people relating to his personality. And finally he reveals that discovering the causes of a series of addictions to food, chemicals and people, used as an attempt to escape from life, are all part of the personal work that he does to clear out the past and be able to fulfill the job he believes is part of his mission here on planet Earth: "To help people to help themselves to take the next step with dignity and respect."

Craig talks about his teachers on this path as more non-physical personal guides than actual flesh and blood types you meet on the street. One such teacher, Master Po, has been working with Craig since 1985. This teacher appears to Craig as a thin Oriental man and taught Craig to speak what is in his heart, straightforward, like a weatherman reporting the rain, and to be willing to pay the price or reap the rewards of what is said. Craig now lives in Sedona, Arizona, with his wife, Ann. He has a son living in San Diego. Craig not only teaches in Sedona, but in California, New York, Texas and Fort Wayne.
